Dear District 19 Families:

As we move into this week, we wanted to provide you with some additional information on what to expect. First, per an executive order from Governor Pritzker on Friday (3/13), all Illinois public schools will be closed March 17th through Monday, March 30th to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). As the governor has declared these “Act of God Days,” we are being told that at this time these days will not need to be made up at the end of this year. District 19 chose to close schools beginning today, and this will be used by our staff and students as an e-learning day not an emergency day so assignments posted for today will need to be completed.

All e-learning activities will continue to be posted this week. These links and activities are suggested daily activities for all grade levels for the duration of the Act of God Days declared by the governor. We believe that it is in our students’ best interest to continue with their daily learning.

The district office will be open today (Monday, March 16th). If you have students who were not at school on Friday and need their device or materials, please stop into to the district/elementary office.  In addition, if your child has medication at school, you are also encouraged to stop by the school to pick this up.

We are working to provide breakfast and lunch for students as part of the National School Lunch Program. This service will begin on Tuesday, March 17th. More information will be provided to all families about this.

As things are constantly changing, McHenry County superintendents will be monitoring information about the situation in order to determine if schools re-open following spring break or if we switch to e-learning days. We are aware of the challenges that the schools being closed presents to families. We also want to ensure that we don’t reopen before knowing that the situation is manageable and won’t compromise anyone’s health. We will notify you as soon as a decision has been made.

Thank you for your continued support and flexibility. If I can be of any assistance please contact Tiffany Elswick at telswick@ah19.org

Sincerely,

Tiffany Elswick

Assistant Superintendent District 19
