District 19 has 5 new positive cases of COVID for a total of 7 reported for the 2021-2022 school year. The people that need to know have already been contacted. Therefore, if no one has spoken to you personally, this doesn't affect you, and there is no need for concern. All steps and protocols have been taken and are being followed. We wanted to remind you that we aim to remain transparent and informative through this process. We appreciate your continued flexibility during this time. Please be vigilant in understanding the procedure for determining when our school community must be informed of a positive COVID case. We will only notify those individuals who are considered close contacts to a positive case. It is critical that we not disclose positive cases to anyone other than those being directly impacted or at risk. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out. Please be aware that individuals may be eligible for modified quarantine periods based on location, exposure times, and risk assessment. To participate in shortened quarantine, close contacts must provide appropriate negative test results prior to being permitted for in-classroom participation only. Under these circumstances, close contacts to a positive case will NOT be eligible to ride the bus or participate in any extra-curricular activities or sporting events for the full 14 days. No lunchroom exposures will be allowed to follow a modified quarantine. Although we are unable to disclose specific information regarding cases and periods of isolation and quarantine, please know that many factors must be reviewed prior to making any exclusions from school. Vaccination status, assessment of high-risk verses lower risk exposures, ability to isolate, family dynamics, and modified quarantine option eligibility are many of the considerations that are carefully reviewed with each positive case. Each positive case has a different circumstance that must be evaluated using CDC, IDPH, ISBE, and local health department guidance. We hear and understand your frustrations our goal is to keep our kids in school, and we apologize for the inconvenience this may cause you or your family as well as the interruption in your child’s school year.

GEORGE WILLIAMS COLLEGE REPRESENTATIVE VISITS AHHS 8/31/2021: AHHS students were able to meet with the George Williams College representative. The function of these visits is multifaceted. In part, the visits serve to spread interest in their schools by educating students about the many programs and activities available there. In addition, the visits serve as an initial point of contact between students and colleges, allowing students to express their interest in a school and to establish a contact at the school itself. If you are interested in a college that is visiting your high school, meeting with the college rep is highly advisable. This will allow you the chance to meet face-to-face with the rep and ask specific questions while also providing you the chance to let the college know that you’re interested in attending. It’s also an opportunity to make contact with a person who may be evaluating your application in the future, since in many cases, the reps who visit are actually admissions officers from the college. Sometimes, you might even be able to get an early read on your transcripts, test scores, and course selections to help assess your fit at a particular college and to help figure out what you can do during the remaining months to improve your chances of getting in. NEXT COLLEGE REP VISITS: SEPT. 3-MCC SEPT. 9-VERTO EDUCATION SEPT. 14-WESTERN IL

District 19 has 2 positive cases of COVID for a total of 2 reported for the 2021-2022 school year. Per our fall reopening guide, it’s important to know that the district will not send daily emails regarding each individual positive case. The district will update positive cases on Fridays if/when new cases occur.

I understand that there is a question regarding gator masks. Last year they were not allowed however, this year if they are thick enough and can stay up, we will be allowing them. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s building principal or Bria Spiniolas our district nurse. Gracias Tiffany Elswick

We appreciate your patience as we continue to make appropriate adjustments to the information as rules for P-12 education have shifted over the last few days, most recently yesterday at 11:30 new guidance was sent to schools. We will continue to monitor information shared by the various health departments, ISBE, and the Governor's Office, and we will update the information when necessary. The COVID-19 prevention strategies are a critical piece to ensure our students and staff are healthy so we can keep our schools open for in-person learning. Let’s continue to work together to protect the health and safety of our students, staff and community and ensure our students remain in an in-person learning model this school year. We look forward to welcoming all students on Wednesday, August 18. Please know that an updated fall reopening guide will be sent out by the beginning of next week.

WOW! What an amazing first "official" day as Alden-Hebron Elementary Principal! The support my family has felt from the community so far has been overwhelming. We are truly blessed to have found a home here in Hebron. I have been meeting with each and every amazing staff member in our building, and planning for the best school year yet! Day 2 will be even more exciting, as I plan to stop by every single elementary house in the district! Popsicles with the Principal Day is here! Alden-Hebron School District 19 is pleased to announce that Eric Slocum will be Alden-Hebron Elementary School's new principal. Mr. Slocum is finishing his Educational Leadership Program from Western Illinois University. Prior to obtaining his Educational Leadership degree, he earned a Master's Degree in Special Education and a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Western Illinois University. Over the past 13 years Eric has served as a special education and general education teacher at Clinton Middle School, in Clinton Iowa where he taught 6th grade social studies and 8th grade special education science and math. Eric actively works as Clinton's Professional Learning Community and grade level team leader where he facilitates staff and leadership team meetings as well as coordinates academic and social support for nearly 130 students. He is recognized as a leader in the Capturing Kids Hearts program that Clinton Middle School implemented in 2018. In addition, Mr. Slocum Annually lead and coordinated Clinton Middle Schools Charity events which in 2018-2019 had their school ranked #1 in the state of Iowa for donations. District 19 put together a committee of staff, board members and parents who took part in the principal selection process. Eric Slocum was one of 29 candidates who applied for the position and made it through the interview process that included two interviews as well as a principal entry plan presentation to the committee. I am excited that Mr. Eric Slocum will be the new leader for Alden-Hebron Elementary School. On behalf of the committee and myself, we confidently believe that Eric's talent, student centered approach, and experience will guide students, staff, and community to a fun, safe, and motivating learning environment while having a positive impact on district 19 as a whole. We are excited to have him join our administration team and are beyond excited for what the future brings! Tiffany Elswick Assistant Superintendent/Principal Alden-Hebron District 19

This week in 8th grade students had the opportunity to dissect owl pellets. In January, they read an article about the "barfing birds" and the students were very interested in it, so Ms. Fay took the chance to expand the curriculum a little and do this fun lab. At first some of the students were very grossed out, but by the end they were so excited to find the different bones and skulls within the pellets. Our coolest find was a mole skull that was intact, both top and bottom jaw.

High School Officials Are Needed in All Sports~ There is an urgent need for officials in all sports throughout our state. The NFHS, National Federation of State High School Associations and the IHSA, Illinois High School Association are looking for men and women who want to return something to their sport, school and community by becoming a licensed athletic official. There is a real shortage of officials at this time and some of our student athletes games and contests in the future may be in jeopardy. Please consider becoming an official to help the games go on. It is a great way to stay involved with the sports you love and can be very rewarding. You can also make a little extra money for yourself, which is never a bad thing!! Click on the NFHS link #BecomeAnOfficial or go to the IHSA webpage and click on becoming a licensed official for more information. https://www.ihsa.org/Officials

High School Winter Sports Update More positive news!! The HS Boys & HS Girls Basketball Teams both officially started practice on Jan. 27th after a very long and highly anticipated wait. The IHSA released the new season dates last week for all sports with basketball starting immediately and ending on March 13th with no state series. That means we will be playing a 4- week schedule along with all the other NAC schools starting on Feb. 8th and finishing on March 6th. The boys will have 12 games scheduled and the girls will have 10 at this time. Please check out the new schedules posted on the web page. I want to make sure everyone understands that before we can play a game against another school our region will have to move to Phase 4. Let us all keep our fingers crossed and follow all the proper protocol so we can get there quick and get these kids playing. I will be sending home NAC Fan Attendance Guidelines with all the athletes on Feb. 5th so you will know which schools will allow fans and which games you may be able to attend along with following all COVID-19 protocol. Because of all the different gym sizes it is up to each school in the NAC to make their own decision about hosting fans within the IDPH guidelines. Please watch the school web page for all updates, as we know in these times things can change quickly and daily. Let’s Go Giants!!! Coach Lalor

November 9, 2020 Dear parent or guardian: Unfortunately, due to positive COVID cases and contact tracing we have decided to implement what the IDPH calls an “adaptive pause” on hybrid learning. Beginning Tuesday, November 10, District 19 will move to a remote learning model. For more information about what an adaptive pause means according to the IDPH, please refer to page 3 of the following document. https://www.isbe.net/Documents/IDPH-Adaptive-Pause-Metrics.pdf It has been important to our Administration and Board of Education to be able to provide families with a choice in learning model for their child(ren) throughout this pandemic. We are all in agreement that face-to-face teaching and learning is what is best for our students and we are all disappointed to have to temporarily suspend in-person instruction. It is our hope that we will be able to resume our hybrid model in the future. However, as we continue to prioritize the health and safety of our staff, students and families, an adaptive pause is what is currently appropriate. It is essential that parents and guardians continue to call and report illnesses to our school nurse at (815) 648-1608.

It is important to our administration and the Board of Education to be able to provide families with a choice in learning models for their child(ren) throughout this pandemic. We are all in agreement that face to face teaching and learning is what is best for our students. However, if at this time you feel that it is necessary to change your child(ren) status to remote learning please contact your child(ren) building office by November 5 and this will be your choice for the remaining of the semester NO exceptions. It is critical that community members cooperate and comply with the county health department and/or our school nurse. If you want the District to stay in Hybrid Learning, we need your cooperation with the health department. If anyone within the household is experiencing ANY symptoms, ALL children are to remain home. Please contact the school nurse for guidance during school hours. We will continue to prioritize the health and safety of our staff, students, and families. Gracias, Distrito 19

District 19 Families: We’ve received a number of inquiries regarding public health metrics and current county-level trends. We are monitoring the situation closely in cooperation with the McHenry County Department of Health. Given the sharp rises in key metrics over the past several days, changes to our hybrid learning plans and a shift back to remote learning may be required in the near future. As has been the case since the start of our reopening journey, our plans remain at the mercy of larger public health factors. Please make preparations to be ready should a shift back into Remote Learning be necessary in the near future. We will be in communication with any updates. Thank you, District 19
