Sketchbook #22 (week 8)

As we are winding down our school year, I would like for you to REFLECT on what you set out to do at the beginning of the school TO what you have created through the school year TO how you have navigated eLearning or Remote Learning. Please SELECT THREE OF YOUR BEST ARTWORKS you created during Remote Learning AND EMAIL them to me. Include, it least a paragraph, for your reflection.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS ARE-----

  • What did you SET OUT to do/learn/develop/create at the beginning of the school year? Have you accomplished it?
  • What DID you CREATE? Are you PROUD of it or SURPRISED by it?
  • How have you navigated Remote Learning? Was Art II a priority to you OR just something to pass the time OR an annoyance?
  • Do you have any feedback for ME, Mrs. Schafer, on how I can IMPROVE Art I & Art II for next year?

EMAIL me the reflection and the ARTWORK to mschafer@ah19.org BY 9:00 pm on Wednesday 05/013/2020.

Directions: British artist, Andy Goldsworthy, is an excellent example of an artist who is not only inspired by nature but creates art using natural materials. His land art sculptures are intentionally temporary and left in their environment.

His work is examples of

• Radial Balance: balance that radiate out from a center point in a circular fashion.

• Symmetrical Balance: Mirror image balance. Equal on both sides.

• Asymmetrical Balance: Balance that occurs when several smaller items on one side are balanced by larger item on the other side.

How has Goldsworthy used contrasting colors or values to lead the eye around the artwork?

Goldsworthy’s process is of leaving the finished work in nature. He knows his work is only temporary, later to be destroyed in its natural environment.

Gather materials from your environment to help demonstrate balance, contrast, line, shape, etc. Take a hike or look around your yard and pick up potential materials, such as, pinecones, sticks, rocks, leaves, etc. would all be useful for this project.

Create a radial, symmetrical, or asymmetrical artwork with your natural materials.

Once your work is complete, document your creation with taking

Zendoodle Landscape #2

Step 1- Create your own doodles (about 10) by using simple lines and adding detail to create visual interest. You can Google 'Zentangle' for ideas. I am including an example sheet as well.

Step 2- Create 3 thumbnail landscapes to choose from. Create as many landscapes as you need until you get one that you like. Remember as shapes recede into the distance they should get smaller and overlap.

Step 3- Chose 1 landscape. Recreate the landscape on a larger paper (8 1/2 x 11, copy paper)

Step 4- Outline with sharpie or black pen.

EXTRA Step- Add color. Not required to be turned in.
