Hey There AH Students/ AH Community Members/Friends of Hackmatack Volunteers, This Sunday, December 10th from 9 a.m. to Noon we have our next stewardship day. (Lots to do this time of year!) We will move back across the road and work at the Tamarack West site, which is off refuge. Our first order of business is seed sowing. We will sow this seed into each of three savannas we have been clearing for the last year or more. We'll first meet at the west savanna, sow there, and then some of us will sow seed in the remaining two savannas. Wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty, and please bring your own drinking water. Protective clothing such as long pants (not leggings) are recommended. We’ll have hand tools, workgloves, safety glasses, and a few snacks. The Tamarack West site is on the south side of Tryon Grove Road, 1.2 miles west of the intersection of Routes 12, 31 and Tryon Grove Road. A map to the site from the intersection of Routes 12 and 31 and Tryon Grove Road is shown here: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/42.4508834,-88.3058863/42.4467446,-88.3285758/@42.4475514,-88.323252,1589m/data=!3m1!1e3?entry=ttu GPS coordinates for the access point along Tryon Grove Road are: 42.446698 -88.328607. An RSVP is appreciated, so if you know you will be attending please give me a heads up. Students are welcome! If you are under age 18 , you will need a parent or guardian to sign the attached form indicating that you are authorized to attend; you can either email the signed form back to me or bring it to the workday. (You do not need to sign, just your parent/guardian.) The correct form you need to complete for this activity is: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/14ZDkqLvBqTVpANqUXEauouUu5l6mW5H_7JlVKWcc5CM/edit?usp=sharing As always, if there is any question of weather please check your email before you head out to the workday; no email means we are on. You can also check in with Pete Jackson at 224-612-1803 if you have a question. It will be really exciting to move on to the seed sowing phase of this restoration! We hope to see you Sunday! Richmond/Spring Grove Area Rotary Club is again offering new free winter coats to families in need in the AH19 schools. To receive coats, a family has to place a request through email at rsgaoperationwarm@gmail.com. There are no hurdles to jump through or qualifying criteria. Anyone who requests a coat will get one. They have several sizes in my inventory and will order any additional sizes. Sizes range from 2T-Junior size XL. Though we encourage orders to be in by November 20th, we will not turn anyone away after that date.

Every Kid Outdoors Program Provides Fourth Grade Students with Free Entrance to Public Lands! Fourth-grade students can get a free annual pass to visit more than 2,000 federal recreation areas with their families, classmates, and friends. The Every Kid Outdoors Program is an interagency collaboration between the Department of the Interior, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and U.S. Forest Service that provides fourth graders with free access to explore, learn, and recreate in spectacular settings, including national parks, wildlife refuges, marine sanctuaries, and forests. To obtain the free pass, fourth-grade students visit the Every Kid Outdoors website, participate in a short educational activity, and download a voucher. The voucher is valid for multiple use between Sept. 1, 2019 and Aug. 31, 2020 to correspond to the traditional school year. The voucher may be exchanged for a keepsake pass at participating federal lands. The voucher or pass grants free entry for fourth graders, all children under 16 in the group and up to three accompanying adults (or an entire car for drive-in parks) to most federally managed lands and waters. The pass does not cover expanded amenity fees such as camping or boat rides. There are seven federal agencies participating in the Every Kid Outdoors Program. You can search for participating lands and waters (by agency) through the links below: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service http://www.fws.gov/refuges/?ref=topbar U.S. Forest Service http://www.fs.fed.us/ivm/index.html National Park Service https://www.nps.gov U.S. Bureau of Land Management https://www.blm.gov/visit U.S. Bureau of Reclamation http://www.usbr.gov/recreation/ National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration http://sanctuaries.noaa.gov/visit/ U.S. Army Corps of Engineers http://www.usace.army.mil
