VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Sunday, October 22nd from 9 to Noon
Our next stewardship day for the benefit of the Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge is this Sunday, October 22nd from 9 to Noon at the Tryon Grove site, the newest site on the Hackmatack Refuge. We are clearing trees and brush from the site this fall and winter, and then we will use grant money from Nicor Gas to purchase native prairie seed which we will put down next fall/winter.
Wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty, and please bring your own drinking water. Protective clothing such as long pants (not leggings) are recommended. We’ll have hand tools, work gloves, safety glasses, and a few snacks.
The Tryon Grove site is on the north side of Tryon Grove Road, 1.5 miles west of the intersection with Routes 12 and 31. A map to the site from the intersection of Routes 12 and 31 is shown here: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/42.4508626,-88.3058114/42.4451761,-88.3329365/@42.4474411,-88.3280166,14.98z?entry=ttu
The address is 7008 E Tryon Grove Rd, Richmond, IL 60071-9757, 42.447970, -88.332620. If you are familiar with our Tamarack West site, the Tryon Grove site is across the road and a bit further west (and on the north side of Tryon Grove Road). There is plenty of room for parking after you pull into the site; be careful when entering and exiting the site (oncoming traffic may be shielded from view).
An RSVP is appreciated, so if you know you will be attending please give me a heads up. Students are welcome! We are hoping to have students from Alden-Hebron and Richmond-Burton High Schools attend! If you are under age 18 , you will need a parent or guardian to sign the form (located in HS Office/sent to school emails) indicating that you are authorized to attend; you can either email the signed form back to me or bring it to the workday. (You do not need to sign, just your parent/guardian.) The sections to be completed are 1-19 and 28-36.
Take particular care to ensure your parent or guardian completes the contact information, parental consent section, and emergency contact section and signs it.
As always, if there is any question of weather, please check in with Pete Jackson at 224-612-1803. It will be really exciting to continue working on this new refuge site!
We hope to see you Sunday!
